My husband and I chose Colombia as a honeymoon destination and we are so happy we went with it. Cartagena was the last stop on our trip and we didn’t think we’d be surprised, but, boy, were we wrong! The Rum Box is situated near the historical centre, conveniently between the hotel area and the gorgeous Getsemani neighbourhood, which allowed us to walk to it after we were done. We tried a total of 9 different beverages, started off with two types of Aguardiente and continued with a selection of rums. Our guide for the experience was Alejandra and she was indescribably fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. We hit it off straight away (maybe because both our names were Ale ❤️) and she created such a relaxed, fun, engaging and entertaining atmosphere that we felt fully at ease and managed to completely unwind (and obviously get a little bit tipsy). She knew a lot about where rum comes from, the different barrels in which it is kept and aged, she paired each shot amazingly with both chocolate and small bites from the restaurant in the building across the street (basically the Rum Box is comprised of two buidings - the restaurant and the shop with a bar, where the tasting took place). Words are not enough to describe how warm, smiley, welcoming and friendly Alejandra was, it felt like I am out with a friend who knows a lot about rum rather than at a tour. I wasn’t much of a rum drinker before this, but my horizon has certainly broadened. If you do only one organized activity while in Cartagena, let it be this one, you won’t regret it!

My husband loved this experience for his birthday! We were easily able to walk to the location from our hotel in the walled city. The location was wonderful - the decor and staff super inviting. Our tour guide through the experience was Wendy - she is absolutely personable and a lot of fun!! Knowledgeable of the rums we tasted, the nibbles of food and chocolate in between tastings was phenomenal - Wendy gave us great suggestions to see and do in the city - and definitely made us alcoholics by the end of the tasting! 10/10 - recommending to everyone!

If you're looking to escape the heat and try a bunch of different rums, this is the tour for you! Our tasting lasted just over an hour and we had the most amazing time. Sebastian was not only super fun, but so knowledgeable and we had a blast! We ended up buying rum and chocolate to take home. The pairings were spot on! Highly recommend!

What an incredible experience! My best friend and I booked a 4 PM time slot on a Monday and walked there from our hotel in Getsemani (about a 10 minute walk). We were greeted warmly and took a seat at the bar, where our rum guide/bartender, Sebas, took us through the tasting. I was very excited that the first tasting was of Aguardiente. Everyone we met during our visit throughout Colombia, from locals to international travelers, recommended we try it. Some of the tastings were straight rum and some were mixed into a cocktail and many were paired with chocolate (that they make locally!) or savory snacks. There were a few rums that had aged versions, which we also got to sample. Our bartender, Sebas, was amazing! From the get-go he was very personable and super knowledgeable about each rum, even asking us what our go-to typical drink or liquor was to get a sense of what we liked. He eagerly answered all our questions and quizzed us a bit about our rum knowledge. I thought the cost for the tasting was very reasonable. We paid 325.000 COP each, which is about $85 USD. Make sure you have eaten something substantial before you do the tasting. I would highly recommend this for anyone going to Cartagena.

My wife and me visited El Arsenal’s Rum and Chocolate experience on 02OCT25 for our honeymoon. Our host was Alejandro. Alejandra was ready to receive us outside the establishment early. She was also wearing an apron with the company’s name, which made her easy to find. Alejandra was an absolute pleasure upon a first meeting and throughout the entirety of the experience. She gave us a selection of 8 different alcoholic drinks. The pours were more than enough to obtain a complete flavor profile of each drink. While not all of the drinks hit for me the same way in terms of taste, that was to be expected from a tasting. By my recollection 5-6 out of the drinks were absolutely delicious. I was quite partial to the Parce Rum and the Agaurdiente. I will not spoil what my favorite drink was, but let me say Alejandra made a performance out of making it, which I genuinely enjoyed. Alejandra was profoundly knowledgeable about each drink and informed us about the cultural signage of them as well as the social settings you would likely enjoy them in Columbia. The chocolate portion of the tasting was also too notch and paired with the alcohol in an unexpected, albeit profoundly pleasant way. Additionally, water was provided throughout the experience to help cleanse the palate between tastings. The food sampled during the tasting was also outrageously good. My favorite item was the Casnastilla de Plantino. It was aesthetically beautiful, colorful by way of the peppers, and sufficiently seasoned. Also, it was filling. Following the tasting, Alejandra gave us a tour of where the chocolate was made: Chocolate Co: El Laboratorio. She gave us information on each aspect of how the chit was made as well as its history. Overall, I could not asked for a better experience. Also Alejandra was just the literal best!
