5.0 Fantastic Experience with Captain Dave

We did the 2-hour private sail experience with Captain Dave. His directions to find the boat were impeccable, and I don't know how anyone could get lost. Not far from the 911 Memorial, the marina was very easy to find and had great views of the Jersey shoreline. Captain Dave is a native to the area, so he knows virtually everything about this area. He pointed out landmarks and took us right up to the Statue of Liberty while telling us about Ellis Island and the other buildings in that area. The views from the boat were astounding, especially of the Manhattan skyline. Dave was really friendly and we had a great time laughing and taking photos with him. My sister and I had the BEST time on his sailboat, Tara, and we will definitely go back. HIGHLY recommend!

The Tara is beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect size boat for a day on the water. It’s such a great way to see NYC from another perspective. The city truly does sparkle at night! We will most definitely sail with them again !

What a glorious birthday I had sailing on the Hudson with family and Captain Dave of Tribeca Sailing! The NY and NJ harbor and skyline views were magnificent, and the sail for 6 family members aged from 9 to 78 was safe, relaxed, informative and uplifting, thanks in great part to our accomplished Captain Dave. Accessing the boat was easy. If you have an hour and a sense of adventure, definitely treat yourself and friends or family with this experience!

This tour was recommended to us by a colleague and we are so glad we did it. It was great. The captain is a nice and pleasant man who can tell you a lot about everything you sail past. You escape the hustle and bustle of the city, but see so much. Would do it again, highly recommended.

I’ve had the great pleasure to have been on The Tara many times. I don’t have adequate words to describe the charm of her. That combined with Captain David’s expertise makes for a truly blissful experience on the water.
Seeing The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the water is something that never fails to inspire awe.
Run, don’t walk and book a sail for yourself, friends, family or a work function on The Tara with Captain David. It will be the best 5 STAR time!!!

We have had the pleasure of sailing with David once every Summer. Winds change. Weather changes. This is part and parcel of sailing. We have never been disappointed, quite the opposite, always thrilled by our sails. David is a stellar Captain, showing us incredible close views of the Statue of Liberty, areas upriver along the Hudson, Governors Island and more. The prime shots of sunsets David has steered us to have been nothing short of spectacular. Sitting upfront as we make our way back to the pier, as the waves lap at the bow of the boat leaves one with such a sense of peace, the lights of the city glow amid the evenings darkness. Taking a private tour with David is a 10+. And again, this Summer, we look forward to another wonderful trip out on the city’s waterways. Ty David!

I am extremely disappointed with the professionalism of Tribeca Sailing. We booked a 2-hour sail for a wedding proposal, but the experience was far from what we expected. Due to weather conditions, the captain kept us stationary instead of sailing down the river, drastically affecting the experience and preventing us from cruising to the Statue of Liberty. At the one-hour mark, he informed us we had to return to the port due to lightning and suggested we might go back out if it stopped. However, the rain and lightning continued, and the captain decided to dock the boat permanently.
When we inquired about a refund, the captain referred us to the boat owner, David, who refused to offer any partial refund despite us only using half of our scheduled time. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against booking with this company. They are unlikely to provide a refund and fail to communicate weather-related expectations in advance.

This review has saddened me. After such a happy moment for your engagement to be writing a review about my captain and myself that is so totally misleading is very disappointing. I will not respond in kind by attacking your truthfulness or your character as you have done me.
We worked very hard to make sure that your engagement went off without any problems. My normal process is to warn people prior to leaving the dock that we might have to come back for storms and then head back out again once they pass. This is usually discussed at the beginning of the charter. As this was your engagement, we didn’t want to spoil the surprise and moment. I thought the shared goal with your fiancé was to get the proposal completed as a priority vs rescheduling or delaying.
Had I known you were going to be so dissatisfied, I should have cancelled and or delayed the charter based on the weather report. I thought I was doing the right thing for you as I know how important the engagement was going to be. I thought it better to get you on the water for beautiful pictures and the experience, even if it was to be cut short.
I am sorry you do not like my weather cancellation policy and wish you had read the policy prior to your charter and not after the charter was complete. If you don’t purchase cancellation insurance and the weather turns bad you get to go back out again or you get a credit. You also declined to go back out, and you declined to accept my credit. If you read my terms and conditions, it does not say you get a refund for a charter ending early.
When people do not get their way, they say all sorts of nasty and mean things. It is bullying to say if I don’t get my way, I will write a 1-star review. I will not be held hostage by mean people. It is very sad and I guess you can’t make everyone happy. I never thought it would happen with a newly engaged couple.

We loved our experience with Tribeca Sailing, Tara the Sailboat, Captain Clark and, of course, Captain David! Our fabulous afternoon began with meeting Captain David, who gave us some color on Tara and introduced us to Captain Clark. We then began our adventure, which was a route uptown due to windy weather conditions, which afforded us a terrific view of Tribeca, SoHo, Chelsea, and, Midtown. Captain Clark kept us safe amidst the choppy water, but we had a blast (even though we got a little wet)! 20/10, can’t recommend Tribeca Sailing enough! We’ll be back :)

Can't recommend this private sail enough! The boat was beautiful, our captain was lovely...personable, informative, and fun. He told us interesting facts along the way and pointed out highlights, such as where Sully landed the plane in the Hudson. The sail was smooth and he took great photos of us in front of the Statue of Liberty.
What a great way to see the lady. Take this private sail. You won't be disappointed!

The stars were aligned and we had great wind from the west and tide was in our favor. Magical Sunset sail it was better than spending the money on my therapist. Worth the price of admission. Very memorable and Captain Matt is the best sailor from the North Cove. Beautiful handcrafted wooden sailboat !

I surprised my husband for his birthday a couple weeks ago with a Tribeca Sailing Private Sunset Charter. We boarded the Tara and were welcomed by Captain Clark. We've lived in NYC over 30 years and have never done something like this. We will absolutely repeat this experience. There are no words to describe the peaceful feeling and the freedom of viewing our beloved city from the water. The time out was spectacular and we were super fortunate to have the most epic weather and a great guide in our Captain. He even let the birthday boy take the wheel!!! I booked a 2-hour sunset sail for my husband’s birthday as a “gift of adventure” for someone who’s not into more “stuff.” The boat accommodates six people (in addition to the captain), which was just perfect for our group of friends, though you don’t have to book all six spots. We had a wonderful time, and Captain Clark was welcoming, friendly and highly knowledgeable about all things sailing. We learned a lot about currents and winds and the history of New York’s sea port. I definitely recommend this sailing trip if you want to sit back, relax and take in the phenomenal view of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governor’s Island and Manhattan skyline. It’s a great option, whether you’re a local and need that vacation vibe, or a visitor looking to do something a little different that’s away from the crowds.

I called Captian David in the morning for a last minute private trip with my partner. He was extremely informative and professional. He was able to accommodate me for a private afternoon trip around Manhattan on his beautiful sailboat. The captain of the sailboat was Captain Matt. Captian Matt made my partner and I feel very relaxed and comfortable. We had a wonderful time with Captain Matt. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made the trip very enjoyable. The trip was so enjoyable that I had to call Captain David after the trip and thank him for his exceptional services and inform him that I would be going on future adventures with Captian Matt. Such a unique activity in unique that gets you away from the crowds, providing a serene perspective on this busy city. The captain provides explanations of some of the sights but doesn't interrupt the flow of conversation. Super friendly and safety conscious. We have already done this twice with different sets of friends and would do it a third time!
